Kennedy Compound Joseph and Rose Kennedy originally bought a small clapboard home on this site in 1928. Soon after, the home was renovated to include 14 rooms, 2 bathrooms and a motion picture theater. J.F.K. and his siblings spent their summers here. In 1956 J.F.K. bought a nearby house. Eventually many other members of the Kennedy family also bought homes nearby, thus forming the "Kennedy Compound." The area is closed to tour buses, however, the compound is visible from the water and boat tours of this and other sites are offered.
