Thumbies® are meticulousy fashioned using the lost wax casting process in either solid 14 karat gold or sterling silver to create a treasured family heirloom for many generations to come. The cire perdu or lost wax casting, began thousands of years ago in ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia. The artists and sculptors began using this technique to achieve and produce intricately detailed artwork in copper, bronze and gold. The one-of-a-kind Thumbies® are created by transferring your fingerprint onto jewelers wax. Once transferred, our artisians will encase the wax in a 2-layer plaster mold. As the hot metal is poured into the mold, the "lost" wax melts and escapes the plaster mold replacing the wax with an exact precious metal cast piece. Only one casted piece can be created per wax impression. The casted piece is then put through an extensive polishing process to give it a lustrous finish. The final step is engraving a specified name and date on the backside (2 lines, 10 spaces per line), thereby providing a personalized keepsake. |
