George L. Adams


George L. Adams, 81
Niles….. George L. Adams, 81, formerly of Michigan Street, Youngstown, passed away Friday afternoon at Shepherd of the Valley.
He was born July 15, 1924 in Summitville, Ohio, a son of Daniel W. and Mary Headly Adams.
A Program Manager at the Salvation Army in Youngstown, Mr. Adams was a U.S. Army Veteran, awarded the American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Metal, Victory Medal, World War II EAME Theater with 2 bronze stars and the Army of Occupation ribbon.
He is survived by his nieces and nephews.
His parents; and 11 siblings preceded him in death.
Graveside services will be held Friday 11:00 AM in Niles City Cemetery.
Arrangements were entrusted to Herron Funeral Home, Warren.

Sophia Kavalis


Warren…. Sophia Kavalis, 96, of Brookwood Drive, Warren, formerly of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania passed away Tuesday in St. Joseph Health Center.
Mrs. Kavalis was born June 1, 1908, in Kambia, Chios, Hellas, a daughter of George and Despina Hoimes Poupalos.
A business owner, Mrs. Kavalis was a member of St. Demetrios Hellenic Orthodox Church in Warren and the Philoptochos Society and St. Nicholas Hellenic Orthodox Church, Bethlehem, PA. She was a very talented, excellent cook and baker. Sophia enjoyed and mastered many artful talents, including embroidery, clothing and hat design. Having taken art lessons from Jerry Quier, she enjoyed painting with oils and watercolors.
Her first husband, John George Englesson, whom she married in 1925, passed away in 1959. Her second husband, John Kavalis, whom she married in 1969, passed away in 1986.
She is survived by a son, George John Englesson of Aberdeen, MD; a daughter, Chrysanthy Axiotis of Warren; 2 sisters, Mary Englezos and Popy Englesson, both of Bethlehem, Pa; 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
Besides her husbands and her parents, a brother, George J. Bournias, preceded her in death.
The family will receive friends from 2 - 4 PM and 7 - 9 PM Sunday at the John F. Herron Funeral Home in Bethlehem, PA. with services 10:30 AM Monday at the Funeral Home and 11:00 AM in St Nicholas Hellenic
Greek Orthodox Church, West Union Boulevard, Bethlehem. There will be a Trisagion service at 8 pm Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Nisky Hills Cemetery.
A 40 day memorial service will be held at St. Demetrios Hellenic Orthodox Church, Warren.

Fred J. Culp


WARREN . . A Memorial Service will be held at 6:00 P.M. Tuesday January 6th, 2004 in the First Assembly of God for Fred J. Culp, 42 formerly of Ohio Avenue, who passed away Saturday January 3rd, 2004.
Mr. Culp was born January 26, 1961 in Warren, a son of Richard C. Culp of Garrettsville and Shirley M. Williams Culp of Warren, and was a lifelong resident.
Fred was a Master Licensed Plumber. He was a former Co-Owner of Fred and Rick's Plumbing and Owner of Three Sons Plumbing. He was a former member of Believers Christian Church and attended the First Assembly of God.
Besides his wife, the former Rosemarie Clawson whom he married January 15, 1982, he is survived by his parents; 3 sons, Matthew R. of McDonald, Joshua P. of Lisbon and Andrew C. of Warren; 3 brothers, John R. Astolfi of Warren, David V. Astolfi of Warren, and Richard C. Culp II of Canfield; 4 sisters, Mrs. Lisa S. Bunea of Mecca, Ms. Christine A. Kellar of Niles, Mrs. Mary E. Sharpe of Struthers and Mrs. Patricia A. Culp-Dickey of Warren; 3 Grandchildren, Matthew R. Culp Jr. of McDonald, Allyson R. Culp of Howland and Miles R. Culp of McDonald; and many nieces and nephews.

Patrick L. Lightner Jr.


WARREN - Patrick Louis Lightner Jr., 2237 Fairgreen St., was stillborn at 7:49 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2003, at Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital. Patrick is the precious gift given to his father Patrick L. Lightner Sr. and his mother Christine Denise Kover.
Patrick leaves behind as his survivors his maternal grandparents: Ms. Cheryl Kover and Charles E. Kover Sr. both of Warren, Ohio. He also leaves his paternal grandparents: Ms. Patricia Lightner and John A. Lightner Both of Warren, Ohio.
Services for Patrick will be held Monday, June 2, 2003 at 10:00 A.M. in All Souls Cemetery Chapel. Where the family will receive friends from 9 to 10 AM.
Internment will be in All Souls Cemetery. Father James Walker will officiate.

John Edward Sersich


Warren . . John Edward Sersich, 57, Died Sunday, November 11, 2001 at St. Joseph Health Center of Congestive Heart Failure.
John was born May 16, 1944 the son of Edward John and Esther Marie Mendenhall Sersich. John was a member of the Westside Christian Missionary Alliance. His hobbies include Fishing Bingo and Tin Punching.
John married the former Clara M. Johnston on April 13, 1996 who has preceeded him in death on April 4, 2001.
Survivors include his brother Edward John Sersich Jr. of Warren; 3 sisters, Ms. Katherine M. Ohl, Miss Carol Ann Sersich and Miss Patricia J. Sersich all of Warren and many nieces and nephews.
Family will recieve friends at the Herron Funeral Home on Wednesday November 14, 2001 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. Memorial Services will be held this Saturday November 17, 2001 at the All Saints Community Church. Burial will be in the Crown Hill Burial Park. Material Tributes may be given to the American Cancer Society.

Iris Herron


TALLMADGE -- Private services will be at a later date for Iris Herron, 67, of 487 Washburn Road, who died of cancer Sunday morning at home.
Mrs. Herron was born Sept. 23, 1933, in Hendon, London, England, a daughter of Robert and Rose Souster Hallett. She was a homemaker.
Besides her father of London, she leaves her husband, Kenneth, whom she married Oct. 2, 1952; two daughters, Debra Beasley of Las Vegas and Laurie May of Gainsville, Ga.; a brother, Andrew Hallett, and a sister, Barbara Wilson, both of Ramsgate, Kent, England; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
A son, Shawn W., and a brother, Victor Hallett, are deceased.
There are no calling hours. Arrangements are by Herron Funeral Home, Warren.

Charles B. Adams


WARREN -- Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Herron Funeral Home (in Sinchak & Sons Funeral Home) for Charles B. Adams, 78, of 455 Plymouth Place N.E., formerly of Charles Avenue, who died of cancer Friday evening at home.
Mr. Adams was born Oct. 18, 1922, in Elizabeth, W.Va., a son of Daniel W. and Mary Headly Adams.
He was a tool and die repair foreman for Saramar Aluminum for 36 years before retiring in 1982. He also operated a flea market in Austintown and Warren. He was an Army veteran, having achieved the rank of sergeant.
His wife, the former Olive Dunmire, whom he married June 12, 1948, died Nov. 2, 1992.
He leaves a daughter, Maryann Ford of Warren; a brother, George L. of Youngstown; a sister, Elizabeth Knipp of Phoenix, Ariz.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Four brothers and five sisters are deceased.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Charlotte Clawson


Cortland - Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Shoemaker Funeral Home, Blairsville, Pa. for Charlotte Irene Clawson, 82, of 3240 Milear Road, who died of heart failure Wednesday afternoon in Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Clawson was born April 9, 1918, in Blacklick, Pa., a daughter of Joseph C. and Mary Olive Fairbanks Clawson Harkins.
Her husband, Melvin T. "Bill", whom she married August 12 , 1936, died July 18, 1985.
She leaves a son, Thomas R. of Pleasantville, Pa.; three daughters, Mary Shepard of Midlothian, Ill., Sandra Yanci of Cortland and Sharon Isler of Alsip, Ill.; a brother, Charles Harkins of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.; two sisters, Betty Ruth Bishop Zahnizer of Youngstown and Dorothy Pearl Shearer of Blacklick, Pa.; 13 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Three brothers, John E., James G. and George C. Harkins, three sisters, Anna Grace Mardis, Jeannie Marie Mader and Mary May Baker, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren are deceased.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today and one hour before services Saturday at the funeral home. Arrangements are being handled by Herron Funeral Home, Warren.
