Medlars and Quinces

PLEASE NOTE DESPATCH WILL BE AUTUMN 08

Available on QA rootstock ( will reach approx 16ft) and the QC rootstock ( will reach approx 10-12ft ).

MEDLARS -  Related to pears, medlars are unusual fruits and the trees are highly decorative. No pruning is really required, apart from making an initial framework, as they fruit on old spurs and new wood. Some thinning of branches may be necessary. Fruit is usually ready for picking at the end of October, but dessert quality must be ‘bletted’ for two to three weeks to soften fruit and make it palatable. For jelly, fruit must be well ripened. ‘Bletted’ means storing until soft.

QUINCES -  (Cydonia Oblonga). Used for jellies/marmalades, preserving and flavouring. Self-fertile. No pruning necessary.

All medlars and quinces are self-fertile
