Michael Vaughan Announces Youth Cricket Programme
England cricket captain Michael Vaughan has launched a new nationwide initiative designed to encourage more young people to start playing cricket.




The Bavaria Championships - a huge weekend for European youth cricket
Over 120 children from five countries competed in the Bavaria Indoor Junior Cricket Championships held on a snowy weekend 7-8 March in Munich and Tegernsee, in Southern Germany. A total of 19 teams competed in four age sections: the Isar Cup (U10s) and Munich Cup (U12s) were held at the European School in Munich; the Bavaria Cup (U14s) at the brand-new European Patent Office sportshall; and the Tegernsee Cup (U22s) was held in the Gymnasium Hall, Tegernsee.

Children's Secretary Ed Balls has launched a contest aimed at boosting cricket in schools and using it to make lessons more relevant.The two competitions are being backed by the cricket boards of England and Wales and the Youth Sports Trust.

National Bunbury ESCA Day At Lord's
MCC will host the first ever Bunbury English Schools Cricket Association (ESCA) day on the Main Ground at Lord’s on Wednesday 10th September when England Under 15s play against England Under 16s in a 50-over contest. The match, which will celebrate 60 years of ESCA, has been arranged following talks by David English - a Vice President of ESCA and creator of the Bunbury festival – and Keith Bradshaw, Secretary & Chief Executive of MCC. London County CC resumed play April 29th 2004 a century after Dr WG scored his last 1st class century for LCCC against MCC. LCCC is to be a resource for inner London cricket initiatives.




Afghan youngster makes impression
Tariq Mahmood, 14 years old from Afghanistan, is now living with carers in Streatham and he is no mean bowler . He started playing cricket two years ago back home.




London Community Cricket Association

   LCCA was originally founded by mike Barnet with a £50,000.00 grant from Ken Livingston's former GLC. Now under the management of Tom Rodwell this charity seeks to educate via cricket as well as develop talent from the inner city up to county level as well as working with those with special needs. Partly funded by ECB it is supported by the Baring Foundation. 
   LCCA also have an extensive fixture list.
  





Capital Kids
   Capital Kids  was spawned from the Cricket 2000 initiative which fell foul of NCA & ESCA policy.However a grant from the Foundation for Sport and the Arts of £100,000.00 insured it future. Now supported by Lord's Taverners and others and very much encouraged by the 'Establishment' Capital Kids is a bright beacon of cricket for youngsters in the otherwise bleak inner London scenario.




England U-16s Tour South Africa 2003/4
The Youth Cricket Trust is funding this two week tour with seven matches.




West Indies U-19s tour Sri Lanka
Windies Youth play a 4 match ODI series in preparation for the Under 19s World Cup in Bangladesh.

St Joseph's RC Pimary School Maida Vale won the schools under 10 competition November 2003 at lord's beating christchurch school Ealing last year's national under 10 champions.

The Karrot Scheme

The Karrot Scheme is dedicated to eliminating school truancy and youth crime through providing alternatives to 'hanging around'.The project targetted at the most deprived boroughs has the backing of the police, central and local government and  private sponsors including Dorling-Kindersley who have contributed £500,000.00.


Karrot is already well established in southwark and 15 further boroughs are setting up their versions. Alex Tudor and Ian Salisbury  have been assisting in southwark

Emirates Under 17s Triumph in Zuoz Fetival,Switzerland

    Emirates Under 17s won a string of vitories in the Swiss mountains before claiming the Trophy with an impressive victory in the final.  
    Quite why this alpine outpost of school cricket since the 1920s is not the object of an ECC development project is difficult to understand but all strength to the Zuos Lyceum for persisting with cricket on their own.

Asia Under 19s off and up to Katmandhu.....
Eight countries compete for the Asia under 19s qualifier mid October 2001. The winner goes to the ICC Under 19s World Cup. Nepal did well in the last under 19s World Cup but UAE will be keen to replace them for New Zealand this time. The eight are Nepal, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Singapore, Maldives, UAE and Malaysia.

Active_Sports -A Sport England iniative

ICC Under-19s World Cup 2002 in New Zealand
The full draw for the Under 19s World Cup in which sensibly 16 counties compete. In addition to the 10 Test counties Kenya, Canada, Namibia, Scotland and two others compete. One from Ease Asia/Pacific and the other from Asia make up the full 16.
